What Parents Are Saying

Daria Gates pediatric speech therapy in Beacon NY play-based therapy for children, family centered therapy for children, speciality in autism, communication disorders, late talker, children with special needs, and early intervention

We were fortunate to have Daria as my daughters’ SLP at the Gillen Brewer School for two years. She is warm, kind and compassionate.  She went above and beyond to push the school administration to get my daughter an AAC device and trained everyone on the team how to use it.

Daria is friendly and easily approachable.  She is also an incredible teacher and a communicator, showing us more effective ways of getting my daughter to talk with and without the help of the AAC device.

Daria is also very playful and creative, finding different play scenarios to encourage communication. I loved the short little clips of videos she liked to share with my daughter talking, playing and laughing.

Father and Son Playing

Just after my son turned 3, I was concerned that he wasn’t properly talking or pronouncing words. His words sounded slurred or partial. He would try to talk his way around words. I was not only concerned about his speech but that he would develop bad habits and rely on us to know what he meant, instead of speaking properly.

After a lot of research, we knew we wanted private, hands on teaching. We were amazingly fortunate to have found Daria. Not only is she warm and loving towards our son, but she is personable and helpful to parents who are trying to understand their child´s needs. From his first meeting my son attached to her, which if you meet her, it's easy to see why kids gravitate towards her!

While she told us his improvements would happen over time, which we assumed, we started to see changes within a few months. It was amazing to see him begin to not only learn a new set of skills, but learn cues that we could also use at home. Adding to that, she went above and beyond giving us continual information, suggestions and helpful exercises at home.

My son is now 4 and a half, and I don’t know where we would be without all her work. Our son’s speech is night and day to before; it´s amazing to see him talk and have the confidence that he didn’t have before. And even as we continue to work on his speech, his confidence to try and learn new things continues to grow.

We can’t recommend Daria enough; she not only gave our son the confidence to talk but the skills to learn how and to develop himself emotionally. We wanted the best for our child, to give him every opportunity and we are the lucky ones who found her!

Daria was nothing short of amazing with my three children.  Not only was she effective, but the relationship she built with them came first and that relationship fostered a trust in her that, in my mind, helped them develop and progress.  Her style is easy going and her methods fun so that they didn’t even realize they were “learning.“  Daria is a dedicated professional who comes to feel more like family.  We adore her.

Daria has been working with my son who has apraxia for about 2.5 years now. Since the beginning she has been patient and understanding with all my questions and concerns, and most importantly with my son. My son has made such great strides in his speech and I owe so much of it to Daria. She goes out of her way to plan engaging activities based on my son's interests and needs which makes him excited to go to speech sessions. I can not recommend her enough!
